Tony Hibbert & Sylvain Distin impressed with youth prospects coming through at Everton

After an abundance of appearances by youth players during the summer's pre-season friendlies, many of the well established Blues are praising the promising 'future' of the club
Everton's Tony Hibbert and Sylvain Distin have heaped praise on a number of the club's younger players after impressive performances during pre-season friendlies, but both players have warned supporters to not to expect too much too soon.

Ross Barkley, Magaye Gueye, Apostolos Vellios and Conor McAleny have all performed well when called in to action during the club's pre-season matches and established right-back Tony Hibbert, who played alongside Barkley in defence against Werder Bremen, heaped praise on the 17-year-old.

He told Evertontv: "He went to America and the lads told me how good he was over there even though he’s coming back from such a big injury."

"But against Bremen and from what I've seen in training he’s a really bright lad. Football wise I think you couldn’t ask for any more from him, and he’s young and eager to work.

"It was a really good show from him and great experience. It’s easy to forget he’s 17 and people shouldn't get carried away saying he’s the next big thing."

Sylvain Distin also had praise for Barkley, and some of the other Blues youth stars explaining: "He's good in training and he's doing well during the game and he's exactly what we need, some fresh blood like that to just come in and make me feel a bit older and just give something a bit different to the squad.

"He can be a great player but we've got a few more players like that, we've got Conor [McAleny], Magaye [Gueye] and Tollis [Vellios] is doing well when he comes on and that's good news for the club."
