The French striker has a year left on his Stamford Bridge deal and has been linked with a move in recent weeks, but is focused on being an important player at the club this season

Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka is happy to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract with the club.

The arrival of Fernando Torres in January and the return of Daniel Sturridge from loan means that competition for places is fierce at Stamford Bridge this season.

Many have expected the once nomadic striker to have been keen to move on, but he insists that he is happy to stay at Chelsea for the remainder of his contract and fight for trophies.

"I still have a one-year contract with Chelsea and want to give my best to the team in all competitions," he said, according to skysports.com.

"I can still play an important part for the team.

"There will be challenges for us to do well in the English Premier League and also in all other competitions."
