Marlon Harewood has signed a six-month contract with Chinese club Shenzhen Phoenix after quitting Blackpool, according to the Daily Mirror.

The striker left the club after they were relegated last season and reportedly snubbed interest from Reading, Millwall and Notts County.

The 31-year-old former West Ham and Aston Villa player is awaiting international clearance before he can begin for Phoenix.

Phoenix, who now have a wealthy Chinese owner, are looking to bounce back into China’s Super League after being relegated last season.

Harewood could sign a permanent contract with the club if he impresses.

The striker, who started his career with Nottingham Forest, began last season with the Seasiders in promising fashion, scoring twice in a 4-0 victory over Wigan on the opening day at the DW Stadium.

Harewood failed to cement a place in the first team under Ian Holloway though, and was loaned out to Championship side Barnsley in February for the rest of the season.
