A source has reportedly confirmed that the Germany international is interested in rejoining his former club, who he played for between 2001 and 2005, this summer
Thomas Hitzlsperger is keen on leaving West Ham to rejoin Aston Villa, according to Press Association Sport.
The Germany international began his senior career at Villa, making 99 appearances between 2001 and 2005.
Hitzlsperger only joined the Hammers last summer but spent the first half of the campaign on the sidelines after picking up an injury during pre-season, limiting him to only 11 appearances for the London club as they suffered relegation.
A source close to Hitzlsperger said: "Thomas wants to go back to Villa. He enjoyed some great times there."
The midfielder was quoted to say that he would "one day like to return to the club" when he left Villa in 2005.
Alex McLeish's side face competition from Fulham, Blackburn and Stoke to sign the 29-year-old.
