Tottenham's Ledley King: Gareth Bale's goal contribution makes him an improved threat

The centre-back maintains the left winger is vital to Harry Redknapp's siden and is adamant his PFA award was justified by his performances

Ledley King believes Gareth Bale’s goal contribution last season is a sign of the Welshman’s improvement at Tottenham.

The 21-year-old found the net 11 times throughout Spurs’s campaign last term, while a series of influential performances has cast doubt over the winger’s future at White Hart Lane.

King, who suffered a groin injury last season which restricted his appearances for Tottenham to just 10, hailed Bale’s improvement since his arrival from Southampton in 2007.

“He just carried on where he left off the season before. But what he’s added is a goal threat, he’s so dangerous in those attacking areas now,” King told the club’s official website.

“Earlier in his career he moved between left-back and left midfield but you always knew with his left foot that he could create chances and score goals.

“Now he’s looking like he can score goals every week, as well as make goals.

King maintains Bale will remain an important member of Harry Redknapp’s side for years to come and believes the Welshman’s capture of the PFA’s player of the year award is a testament to his ability.

“He’s a big player for this team now and for the future,” said King.

“I’m delighted for him. He’s such a good lad as well. To win the PFA award as well, that’s such a special achievement, especially at his age. It shows you how well he’s done.”
