Dutch defender aiming to win some silverware next season with the Toffees and claims manager David Moyes is still an inspiration for the squad
The Dutch defender claims that any new signings need to appreciate the spirit within the sqaud; spirit that has been accumualted thanks to commitment shown by plenty of the current team.
“I don’t think just anyone can play for Everton,” he told the Toffee's official website. “We are a club with a lot of tradition and you have to show your spirit.
"I think we have already got a few big names and have a good squad. We don’t have the biggest squad but the players that are playing here now have been playing a long time together."
And Heitinga added that after a difficult season, the team are aiming to claim some silverware next campaign.
"[David Moyes] is a good manager. I think after Ferguson and Wenger he is the longest serving manager at any club. He gives the players confidence and I think we did quite well after a slow start, like last season.
"Hopefully for him, for the fans and for the players maybe we can get into Europe or win the Carling Cup or the FA Cup next season.”
Meanwhile, Moyes has warned Everton fans not to listen to any transfer talk, and to only get excited when he announces a deal.
“I have always said that unless you hear it from me then don’t believe it, my job is to try and get the supporters the best team I possibly can and I will try and do that with what I have available," he said.
