Former Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd is set to join Everton on a free transfer after talks failed to lead to a new contract.
The 29-year-old has been a free agent since the Bluebirds were defeated by Reading in the play-offs in May and was linked with a move to Celtic as manager Neil Lennon showed interest in signing the player.
However, according to News of the World, Everton manager David Moyes has reportedly stepped up to make Bothroyd join the Goodison Park club and wants to seal the deal as soon as possible.
Moyes is known for putting his faith in lower-league players after he offered a contract to former Leeds player Jermaine Beckford on a free transfer last season.
Bothroyd started his career with the Arsenal youth and was capped in the England national team in November for the 2-1 friendly loss against France, becoming the first Cardiff player to feature on the national team.
