Blackburn Rovers have made a bid for Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse, the club’s sporting director has revealed.
The 25-year-old Senegalese international has attracted the attention of a number of European clubs by scoring an astonishing 22 goals in his first season in the Bundesliga, with his pace, power and clinical finishing attracting comparisons to a young Samuel Eto’o.
When questioned by German magazine Kicker, the club’s sporting director Dirk Dufner said: "I can confirm that Blackburn have made us an offer."
Rovers are on the look-out for a new striker should they secure their Premier League survival having struggled for goals this term, with leading scorer Nikola Kalinic having netted just five times in the league.
However, they may be forced to pay a premium for Cisse, who is under contract until 2014 and as recently as last week claimed he was happy to stay at Freiburg.
"Everyone is talking about me leaving the club," he told broadcaster Sudwestrundfunk at the time. "But I have not received any concrete offers from another club.
"And as long as I do not receive anything like that, I am to stay on at Freiburg for sure. I enjoy being at this club, it is very tough to find a similar club."
