TEAM NEWS: Andy Carroll starts alongside Luis Suarez for the first time as Liverpool face Sunderland

Strike pair line-up together at Stadium of Light
Liverpool forwards Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez start together for the first time against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

There had previously been reports of Lee Cattermole making the squad in time for this game, and his fitness appears to have convinced manager Steve Bruce to hand the midfielder a spot on the bench.

David Meyler and Michael Turner are both sidelined due to knee injuries, while Danny Welbeck earned a starting role after putting in a good performance against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Steven Gerrard is out with a groin problem, while Martin Kelly, Fabio Aurelio and Jonjo Shelvey also remained on the sidelines.

But the positive news for manager Kenny Dalglish came in the form of Daniel Agger returning to fitness, as the Dane had been a doubt for this game.
