Are Chelsea back in the title race after spirited victory over Manchester United?

Is Stamford Bridge win a lifeline for the champions?
After defeating Manchester United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, are defending Premier League champions Chelsea back in this season's title race?

The match often billed as one of biggest matches of the season finished in favour of the Premier League champions after a 54th minute goal by David Luiz and a penalty converted by Frank Lampard cancelled out Wayne Rooney's first-half minute opener.

The match will certainly be remember by Blues defender Luiz who put in an impressive display added to scoring his first goal for the club since his £22 million move from Portugues giants in January, however the Brazilian was very lucky not to get sent off.

Before kick-off, Chelsea were in fifith place, a massive 15 points behind United. But victory closed the gap to 12 points, potentially dropping to nine if their game in-hand is won.

Chelsea will definitely be confident of getting close to United as Sir Alex Ferguson's side still have to travel to Anfield, the Emirates and are yet to welcome the Carlo Ancelotti's charges to Old Trafford.

Chelsea on the other hand have a much more straightforward fixture list as the only other Champions League chasers they have to face other than United are home games against Manchester City and Tottenham.

Up next for the champions is a potentially tricky trip to Blackpool, a side who have caused most sides a problem at Bloomfield Road, whilst United travel to fierce rivals Liverpool with all their attention being focussed on bouncing back from a damaging defeat.
