The shot stopper is currently the No.4 keeper at the club, but has found himself on the bench on a number of occasions this season as he provides backup for Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski and Manuel Almunia.
The length of his contract – as is often the Arsenal way – has not been revealed, but the club said they were looking forward to witnessing the player’s continued development.
“Arsenal Football Club is pleased to announce that Islington-born goalkeeper James Shea has signed a new contract with the club,” read an official statement.
“Everyone at Arsenal is looking forward to James' continued contribution and development with the club.”
Shea is a regular for the club’s reserve setup having won the Youth Cup with the academy team in the 2008-09 season.The starlet was handed the unusual opportunity of training with the senior England squad when they prepared for a Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria at Arsenal’s facilities as helped to make up the numbers in a practice match.
