Following Tottenham’s last-minute rush to sign a striker in January, or indeed any player who could help sustain Harry Redknapp’s challenge in the Premier League and in Europe, Goal.com UK asked you who Spurs needed the most out of their long list of targets.
The majority who made up Tottenham’s shortlist were strikers as Hulk, Sergio Aguero, Fernando Llorente and Diego Forlan were just a few names linked with a move to White Hart Lane last month.
But a few midfielders were supposedly north London-bound including West Ham talisman Scott Parker and Blackpool linchpin Charlie Adam.
So many names to choose from, so Goal.com UK wanted you to air your views, and thankfully you did, in your droves.
Sergio Aguero came top of the pile with a convincing 16.23% of the vote. Spurs offered £38 million for this chap and Atletico Madrid still said no. Worth backing Redknapp to come back with an offer in the summer.
In joint-second spot with 8.66% was Liverpool’s final January acquisition Andy Carroll and Athletic Bilbao’s all-round poacher Fernando Llorente.
Close behind nabbing the bronze medal was Aguero’s partner in crime at Atletico, Diego Forlan, who received 8.08% of the votes. The Uruguyan was priced at £14 million, which was deemed to high by the powers that be at Spurs and a hefty wage demand of more than £100,000 promptly put the brakes on any potential deal for the 31-year-old.
Just off the podium in fourth spot was Porto’s Hulk, clinching 7.68% of your votes. The Brazilian has impressed in Portugal this term and his physical attributes appear to be a tailored fit to the Premier League. But nonetheless, Tottenham will need to pop back in the summer with an offer in the region of £25 million.
Fifth spot was nabbed by another Anfield recruit, Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan, who held 7.17% of the votes, always seemed destined for the bright lights of Liverpool, so Redknapp really needed to bring his persuasive ‘A’ game to convince the former Ajax man to join his band of men at White Hart Lane.
Notable nods from Goal.com UK’s readers also go to Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi, who earned 5.28% of the votes, Real Madrid’s current number-one frontman Karim Benzema, 5.22%, and the impressive Edinson Cavani at Napoli who received 4.99% of your backing.
