Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias not interested in comments made by Alan Shearer over sale of Andy Carroll

Toon legend had labelled striker's exit as 'staggering'
Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias says he does not care what Alan Shearer has to say about Andy Carroll's £35 million move to Liverpool.

The Magpies legend, who is the club’s record goalscorer, described the decision to sell their star player without bringing in a replacement as “staggering”.

But Llambias has hit back at the former England international, while also mocking his short spell in charge at St James’ Park.

"Do I care what Alan Shearer has to say?” Llambias told The Sun.

"When he ran this football club [in 2009] we were relegated after picking up just five points from his eight games in charge."

Llambias insists that all money received from the transfer will go towards moves for new players in the summer.

"[Owner] Mike Ashley has only ever put money into this football club. He has never taken a single penny out,” he continued.

"And he won't take a single penny of this £35m either - all the money will go to the club and we are already working on identifying transfer targets for the summer."
