Ajax boss Frank de Boer has confirmed that Liverpool have until midnight to make an acceptable offer for striker Luis Suarez or the Uruguayan international will remain with the Eredivisie outfit.
The transfer saga between the two clubs has lasted for most of the January window and Liverpool have failed in every attempt to even get past the first stage in buying the player with a bid that lives up to the Dutch club's estimations of the forward.
De Boer stated: "If he is not transferred by then [within the next 12 hours], Luis will prepare for the match against NAC on Sunday.''
He added: "I expect them to come with a higher offer.”
The former Dutch international declared it would be hard for the Amsterdam outfit if the 24-year-old left the club and it would cost the team an awful lot should he leave them in the middle of a fight for a place in next season's Champions League.
"I am also confident that he will give everything for Ajax if the transfer falls through," De Boer said.
"Suarez understands how we stand in it. It is incredibly important to us. It will also cost tons of money if we are without Suarez for the Champions League places.
"Luis is a passionate player who always plays to win."
The club legend and former Barcelona player, who is now managing his third team, believes that Suarez has a 50/50 chance of leaving Ajax.
Goal.com UK understands that a summer move for the player is more than likely should a final push to bring him to Anfield fail.
