Chelsea are believed to be set to land Everton winger Steven Pienaar for a sum of £3 million, putting an end to Tottenham's reported hopes of signing the player on a free transfer in the summer.
The South Africa international's contract expires at the end of the season, and it is widely thought that manager David Moyes would rather sell the player than allow him to run down his contract and leave for nothing.
Spurs were heavily linked with a move for the former Borussia Dortmund man, who was also believed to be interested in playing under Harry Redknapp.
However, the Daily Mail reports that the west London club are close to signing the midfielder during the current transfer window.
The News of the World reports, however, that Spurs are unwilling to bid any higher than £2m - a figure that the north Londoners were plotting to put to the Toffees in an attempt to land the South African, as exclusively revealed by Goal.com UK.
Moyes has publicly admitted that Everton have accepted a bid for Pienaar.
