Steven Gerrard injury not serious - Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson
Anfield boss allays fears over skipper's injury
By Mark Hazell
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has moved quickly to allay any fears over a potential injury to captain Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard has been out of action since picking up an injury on international duty in November and the Reds skipper was seen holding his calf during the second half of Wednesday’s shock home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Hodgson has ruled out any long term effects and has also explained why he didn’t bring his skipper off.
"Luckily it's cramp, which wasn't good, but unfortunately because we were losing and because I was desperate to do something different and freshen up the team, I'd used up all my substitutes," Hodgson told the club's official website.
"Had I not done so, I would have taken him off."
Hodgson also admitted that the combination of a gruelling festive fixture list and the threat of injuries means he will be forced to make changes to his side as Liverpool prepare to entertain in-form Bolton Wanderers on New Year’s Day.
The Reds boss added: "We've got some chances to freshen the team up and we'll have to continually do that anyway because there are so many games coming up.
"With games every three days, you cannot expect them to play even if you wanted to."
