thumbnail Hello,

Departure not on the cards

Alan Pardew says that Newcastle United do not want to sell any players amidst speculation linking Joey Barton with both Aston Villa and West Ham.

There have been rumours that the club are looking to lower their wage bill by offloading some of their top earners, but Pardew is adamant that there will be no comings or goings in January.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "We don't want to do any business.

"Part of my first week or so here has been spent trying to analyse what is the situation with the players we have and to try to secure their positions before we start looking elsewhere.

"That's been my main focus, rather than looking at other players who could raise the level here."

Barton has been one of Newcastle’s top performers so far this season, scoring twice and putting his troubled past behind him to become an established Premier League player once again.
