Sebastien Bassong hopes that Tottenham Hotspur can beat Aston Villa and Newcastle United to rake in six points before the New Year.
Spurs travel to Villa Park on Boxing Day to lock horns with Gerard Houllier's men, after which they await the Magpies at White Hart Lane on December 28. The former Toon defender understands the physically demanding circumstances, and hopes that his side will be well prepared to confront their opponents.
"We know it’s a tough period but we’re used to it," Bassong said on the club's official website.
"We’re looking for six points from those two games because that’s what we need.
"It’s not easy to play two games in two days but it’s the same for everyone and we’ll do our best.
"If we stay fit and focused and continue to believe in what we are doing then I think we will be alright."
Villa have struggled through a rough patch of form in recent weeks, as they lost four games on the trot before finally registering a victory over West Bromwich Albion.
"They are not in the best form at the moment but they won their last game and are a good team with some great players," added Bassong.
"We have to be careful in that game. We have to travel there in a good spirit and with a winning spirit."
