Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has once again reaffirmed his interest in Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton, according to reports.
The Frenchman tried to lure Barton to Liverpool when the midfielder was at Manchester City and has now joined the race with West Ham to obtain his signature in January, says the Daily Mail.
West Ham have already made an offer for the 28-year-old but fell short of the Toon’s £5 million valuation. However, Barton himself could be tempted by the advances of Aston Villa as he is very keen to win some silverware, which he believes is a likely possibility with the array of talent which Villa possess.
Barton has caught the eye with some stunning displays this season, most recently with a man of the match performance against Liverpool in the 3-1 victory at St. James' Park.
But with 18 months left on his contract the midfielder wants to see if new manager Alan Pardew matches the ambition that he has.
