Birmingham City are looking to steal Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane from the grasp of fierce rivals Aston Villa with a bid of £6 million, according to reports.

The striker has failed to cement a place in Spurs' first team under manager Harry Redknapp and is available in January — which Blues boss McLeish believes will be the perfect signing to aid his misfiring side, according to The Sun.

Spurs have set the 30-year-old’s value around the £8 million mark but this figure is unlikely to be met by either side since he has seen little in the way of first team football at White Hart Lane.

It has been revealed that talks have stalled over the Republic of Ireland record goalscorer's move to Villa Park and McLeish has reacted to this as he sees Keane as an ideal candidate to partner Nikola Zigic upfront.

Birmingham have struggled to find the net this season having only scored 17 goals in 18 games and currently lie perilously close to the drop in 16th position. The misery is further added by the fact that the Blues have not won away all season.
