Everton are keeping a watchful eye on the progress of talks between Stephen Ireland and Aston Villa, and are planning a move in January, according to talkSPORT.
The midfielder has struggled to settle in at Villa Park, only making six appearances for the club since Gerard Houllier took over.
Ireland moved to Villa from Manchester City as part of a deal for England international James Milner in the summer, but Houllier has questioned his future as he feels the 24-year-old’s form has been poor.
With Everton remaining unsure about Steven Pienaar’s future at Goodison Park, David Moyes is keeping tabs as showdown talks continue.
Moyes’s main two targets to replace the South African are Ireland and Pienaar's countryman Siphiwe Tshabalala, as revealed by Goal.com UK last week.
