Former England international makes comeback from knee surgery for derby
The striker has been watching his team from the sidelines for over a month after undergoing surgery on his right knee.
But boss Gerard Houllier has confirmed that the former England international will play a part in the game against their Midlands rivals.
“Emile will definitely be involved on Saturday,” he said.
“It's down to other people to analyse the minutes we've played with Emile, the goals he's scored and made.
“But you would see the difference, he works hard for the team and we've missed him.”
Along with Heskey, Nigel Reo-Coker is returning to training also after contracting a knee injury, but is unlikely to make an appearance at the weekend.
Furthermore, club captain Stilian Petrov will resume training in a fortnight as he continues to recover from his Achilles injury, aiding the club in ending their injury crisis.
“Petrov is ahead of schedule and in two weeks he should be back in training,” added Houllier. “Reo-Coker had his first full training session with us yesterday. I'd be surprised if he is in contention [for Saturday].”
