According to the Daily Mail, scouts from the Latics, as well as Everton, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham, have all kept an eye on the youngster.
However, the Spaniard believes he will settle quicker under Roberto Martinez at Wigan, and if he is a success he will be able to move forwards.
In November, Marquez revealed how he was flattered by attracting attention from the Premier League clubs, even though he was happy at Espanyol.
But with Espanyol facing financial problems, it looks likely that there may be one player making a big move from the club, and the 24-year-old is not ruling out a move to England.
"I am happy at Espanyol, but I am pleased by this news because today the Premier League is, with Spain, the best in the world," said Marquez. "But I insist that my first option is to continue with Espanyol."
