Fulham's Clint Dempsey: The whole squad is behind Mark Hughes

American star says team are behind their boss
Fulham's talented American forward Clint Dempsey has given his and the rest of the Fulham players' backing to manager Mark Hughes.

Fulham drew once again on Saturday, with the 1-1 result against Birmingham City leaving them just one point above the relegation zone.

Since Hughes' summer arrival —when he replaced Roy Hodgson, who moved on to Liverpool — the former Manchester City boss has overseen just two wins in 15 league matches, although the side have succumbed to just four defeats.

Dempsey believes that Hughes is battling against added pressure from supporters after last season's run to the Europa League final, and believes everything will come good at Craven Cottage in the near future.

"We believe in the manager - and we can only keep working for him," Dempsey told the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle.

"It's not wrong of fans to expect more.

"After last season, we've come to expect more of ourselves."

It was Dempsey who scored against Alex McLeish's side this weekend to gain Fulham a point, the Cottagers' ninth draw in the League this season.

Dempsey says the players don't like being at the wrong end of the table, they have the character and experience to succeed, should a fight for survival ensue at Craven Cottage.

"We were taking the game to them before Birmingham scored," Dempsey said.

"But we wanted to show character after last week's game against Manchester City [a 4-1 defeat], although it's frustrating with so many draws.

"Lots of guys have been here when it's been backs-to-the-wall, including me, two out of the four years I've been here."
