Englishman also backs Wayne Rooney to start scoring

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick was delighted to see team-mate Dimitar Berbatov find form once again with a five-star performance against Blackburn Rovers.

The Bulgarian stole the limelight with an incredible five goals in United’s emphatic 7-1 win over Rovers.

They were Berbatov’s first goals since his wonderful hat trick in United’s 3-2 victory against Liverpool in September and the drought had led many to question his worth to the United team.

Carrick believes this will be the trigger for Berbatov to go on a consistent scoring run.

"Dimitar's performance was great. His goals were of the highest order," he told Sky Sports.

"The one just after half-time when he played the one-twos is up there for the goal of the season. It was something special.

"We all know scoring five in a game doesn't happen very often, so I am really pleased for him. I am sure he will go on to score many more for us."

Berbatov’s return to the team on Saturday was alongside Wayne Rooney who didn’t have a sniff of a goalscoring opportunity in the goal glut; Carrick believes Rooney will come good soon though.

The England international believes his team-mate is still trying to find his feet after his ankle injury.

"Wayne and Dimitar created problems all day long. Certainly, Wayne looked sharp, back to his old self,” he added.

"He is fit and hungry. It does make it easier when you play in a team performance as good as that.

"But we know there is more to come from him and he will score big goals for us this season."
