After having to fight off criticism in recent weeks about their lack of goals, City produced arguably their best performance of the season in the 4-1 win over the Cottagers and Kompany believes his teammates must strive for that standard every game.
“Everybody was delighted, the manager told us that we did our jobs well but the whole team put in a good performance today,” he told mcfc.co.uk.
“At half time we said that this was the standard we want all season, it’s easy to say it but we played well.
“We set a standard today, can we sustain it? My opinion is that we can, but it will take nothing less than the same commitment for the next game.”
Kompany was happy with the way that everyone played as a team and were able to put recent criticism behind them.
“Our reaction on the pitch today was one of a team that wants to do better and is ready to give 100% for our targets. We’re happy that it happened for us today,” he added.
“We have had some other good performances, Chelsea, Liverpool, even West Brom away. For us, it’s a question of keeping the standards that high for as long as we can.”
Kompany was also pleased to be able to give something back to the fans who had been critical of them last time out against Birmingham
“People can talk and write, but it does not really bother us," he said. "We understand it when there are signals from the fans, they were not happy after Birmingham but we do our best every day. If we keep doing that, I am sure we will be alright this season."
