Juventus will battle it out with Tottenham to acquire the services of Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar in the winter transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The Italian side are long-term admirers of the South African who is out of contract next summer and free to talk to foreign clubs from January.

Juventus are looking to strengthen their squad further after a wobbly start to the Serie A season and have identified the playmaker idol as one of their main targets in the next transfer window. The departures of club stalwart Mauro Camoranesi and Diego has left the Italian club lacking in attacking midfield options.

But the Turin-based giants will have to fight Tottenham for the 28-year-old's services, after Spurs boss Harry Redknapp failed in his hot pursuit of the player in the summer.

The White Hart Lane boss is still very keen to land his man though and hopes a bid of £5 million will pursuade the Toffees to part company with one of their best players.

The 28-year-old has been in good form for Everton but is unwilling to sign the contract the Goodison Park club have offered.
