Newcastle United v Stoke City team news: Shola Ameobi, Ryan Taylor and Nile Ranger back on the bench for Toon despite midweek League Cup heroics

Trio have to settle for place on bench…
Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton has named an unchanged team from the side that beat Everton 1-0 last weekend for the Premier League clash against Stoke City.

Despite their 4-3 League Cup win over Chelsea in midweek, goalscorers Shola Ameobi, Ryan Taylor and Nile Ranger drop to the bench, which means James Perch, Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll return.

Meanwhile, Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has dropped former Magpies defender Abdoulaye Faye, with Robert Huth switching to centre-back to accommodate Andy Wilkinson at right-back.

Elsewhere, Roy Delap, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Marc Wilson have to settle for places on the bench, as Salif Diao, Glenn Whelan and Jon Walters are preferred.

Newcastle United: Krul; Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Routledge, Tiote, Barton, Ben Arfa; Nolan, Carroll. Subs: Soderberg, Ryan Taylor, Smith, Jonas, Lovenkrands, Ranger, Ameobi.
