Former Manchester United star David Beckham believes Manchester City have what it takes to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Beckham told Yahoo! Sports that City’s wealth and capable squad will surely make the club among the title hopefuls.
“Obviously they got some huge investors and some great players in their squad and a good manager, so I think [they can challenge]”, said Beckham.
However, the 35-year-old LA Galaxy star maintains that City will need time to deliver success to their fans, and conceded that his past at United makes him wish that the Blues fail in their title bid.
Beckham continued: “It will take time to bring success to the club.
“Like I said, I am a Man United fan and I hope that [City winning the Premier League] never happens.
“But I am sure there will be teams and managers looking out for Manchester City because of the amount of money they have poured into the club and the players they’re buying into the club.”
Nevertheless the former United midfielder does not think City are capable of buying the history and achievements that can make them match the Red Devils’ reputation.
“So they’re going to be a threat, but they’ll never be Man United,” Beckham concluded.
