Aston Villa set to appoint Gerard Houllier as manager on Wednesday night - report
Aston Villa are set to appoint Gerard Houllier as manager on Wednesday night, according to Press Association Sport.
The former Liverpool and Lyon boss has been heavily linked with the Midlands club and has resigned in his role as technical director after a meeting with the French Football Federation.
It is reported that the Frenchman will travel to England on Thursday to hold a press conference and meet the Aston Villa players for the first time.
Speculation had also mounted suggesting that pundit Phil Thompson would join Houllier at Villa Park as assistant manager, but the former Liverpool player has decided to continue his media career.
In the absence of Thompson, Middlesbrough assistant manager Gary McAllister and MK Dons midfielder Dietmar Hamann have been linked with the role.
