Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina gives endorsement to Barcelona battler Javier Mascherano
Argentine to 'give everything' for new club...
By Matt Monaghan
Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has told Barcelona to expect a work horse when Javier Mascherano makes his Barcelona debut.
Mascherano, 26, forced through a switch to the Catalans after demanding to leave Anfield due to personal reasons. His exit had left a bad taste in the mouth of Jamie Carragher, but Reina refused to criticise the Argentina World Cup 2010 captain.
Speaking to El Mundo Deportivo, the shot stopper declared the "introverted" battler would give give his all at the Nou Camp.
"He's a very competitive player, very Argentine, who always gives everything when you are on the field," Reina said.
"He's a good person even if he is quiet, somewhat introverted. When it's time to work, he works.
"He will not create any problem in Barcelona. He could always be counted on, never has generated controversy."
Despite his big money move to Barcelona this summer, Mascherano is only rated by the Castrol Rankings as the 305th best player currently plying his trade in one of the top five leagues in Europe.
