Vincent Kompany has conceded that he was surprised to see Barcelona allow midfielder Yaya Toure to join Manchester City.

The Ivory Coast international arrived at Eastlands following a reported £24 million switch from the Catalan club in summer, and was one of the many high profile acquisitions that the club made as they look to build towards Champions League qualification.

Now the Belgian believes that the midfielder will turn City into a force to be reckoned with, while hinting that the Spanish heavyweights could someday rue the sale.

"Toure is a natural-born winner and he will add so much to our team," Kompany told the Daily Star.

"I cannot understand why Barcelona let him leave. He has a big challenge to help us become one of the best teams in the Premier League and Europe.

"He is so important because of the great experience that he has and gives us something which we have lacked in the team."
