Former Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann has acknowledged that one day he would like to manage at the highest level.

The German is currently a player/coach at League One outfit MK Dons, where he feels the experience he is gaining from working alongside Karl Harrison and his coaches Alex Rae and John Gorman is helping develop his skills.

Hamann has big ambitions and insists that one day he would like to follow greats such as Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley into the Anfield manager's job.

"I can gain invaluable experience and learn things from Karl, Alex and John every day while I am doing my coaching badges," Hamann told the Daily Mail.

"I want to play this year and then see. When I have my Pro licence, I will see where I am wanted.

"I would like to stay in this country but you never know.

"And it would be nice to go back to Liverpool one day and to work in some capacity, play some part. Obviously to manage them would be a dream come true."
