Video Evidence: Arsenal target Dynamo Kiev's teenage goalkeeper Maxim Koval
Could the Gunners' search for a new shot-stopper end here?

In the ridiculous world that is football transfer gossip it comes as little surprise to see rumours touted just four days after the window slammed closed. This Saturday speculation surrounds Arsenal's never-ending, never-producing search for a new goalkeeper with Dynamo Kiev's 17-year-old Maxim Koval linked with a move to the Emirates.
Whether Arsene Wenger has even heard of Koval, never mind being interested in signing him, is unknown. The story though plays up to the stereotypical Arsenal transfer policy characteristics, particularly that the Gunners seek relative unknown kids whom Wenger can then transform into being the stars of their generation.
Koval is a product of the Metalurh Zaporizhya youth system in Ukraine. After getting his league debut back in 2008 when he was just a tender 15 years of age, Koval went on to play just 10 matches for Metalurh before he was bought up by local powerhouse Dynamo Kiev last summer. Koval has played just three times for Kiev since his transfer, but he put himself in the shop window in the last round of the Champions League qualifiers when he kept goal against Ajax Amsterdam.
With just 13 first team appearances under his belt, hard-line statements on the whippersnapper Koval are virtually impossible to draw. At just over 6 foot tall, Koval is a well-built teenager who appears to have great reflexes, while he also seems to have the temperament for the big occasion.
Koval's coming of age can be pin-pointed to one specific moment. Last November, when he was just 16, Koval was between the sticks for the visit of Dynamo Kiev. Against the odds Metalurh had managed to keep the match scoreless until Kiev won a last gasp penalty in injury time for a handball. After several minutes of mayhem on the pitch as the hosts pleaded to have the decision overturned, Kiev's star striker Artem Milevskiy stepped up to convert the spot-kick. But in a David versus Goliath moment, the pre-pubescent-looking kid Koval managed to save the shot and Metalurh went on to win the point.
After the final whistle blew a jubilant Metalurh team raced over to the 16-year-old and hugged him to death.
Maksym Koval's career changing penalty save can be seen below:
Koval played in Kiev's 1-1 draw with Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier. During the match the teenager made a heroic save with his leg leg to deny Luis Suarez in the first half as well as making easy point-blank collections from efforts from Seim de Jong and Mounir El Hamdaoui in the second period.
Highlights of Dynamo Kiev 1 - Ajax 1 can be seen here.
In Dynamo Kiev's last league match against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (highlights here), Koval was again in goal as he recorded a clean sheet in the goalless encounter. Koval was heavily involved in the first half making a brave dive at a forward's feet to palm away an attack, and he followed that up with a one handed save to push a 30-yard rocket to safety.
