Manchester United supporters are set to stage an ‘old shirt’ protest against the club’s owners, the Glazer family, later this month.
Fans have targeted United’s clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford as an opportunity to wear shirts that were manufactured before the American takeover in 2005.
Initial protests comprised of supporters wearing green and gold, which were the colours of Newton Heath, United’s founding name. The campaign was successful as it provided a noticeable objection to the Glazer reign.
A second protest which aimed to boycott the purchase of season tickets was not quite as successful. United’s chief executive David Gill has revealed the club sold 51,800 season tickets over the summer, which is only a decrease of 2,200 from last year.
The Glazers have maintained their desire to continue control of the club despite the continued protests from supporters.
