Roma striker Marco Borriello almost joined Manchester City from AC Milan - agent
There was drama on last day of transfer window...
By Chris Davie
The AC Milan striker, who scored 14 goals in Serie A for his club last season, secured a loan move to rivals Roma on the last day of the transfer window after rejecting a move to Juventus.
The 28-year-old also attracted interest from Real Madrid and now it has emerged City manager Roberto Mancini targeted the Italy international for a role at Eastlands in the latter stages of the transfer window.
“It could have ended differently,” Borriello's agent, Tiberio Cavalleri, told Corriere dello Sport.
“On Monday, I had a call from [Roberto] Mancini saying he wanted the player [Borriello] to go to Manchester City."
Cavalleri's bold claims didn't end there, as he stated that Jose Mourinho's side were willing to offload Karim Benzema to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille to make room for his client at the Bernabeu.
“On Tuesday, Real Madrid made an approach," he added. "But then Benzema said no to a move to Marseille and that's when Roma properly came into the picture.”
