Tottenham Hotspur's injury prone defender Jonathan Woodgate has failed to make manager Harry Redknapp's 25-man squad for the first half of the Premier League season.
Redknapp has omitted the 30-year-old after recently expressing his fears over the defender's career.
The Spurs boss questioned whether Woodgate would have to retire if a final operation on a persistent groin injury did not solve the problem.
Woodgate, who only made three appearances last season, has had specialist surgery in America and Australia in a bid to cure the injury, but could now be forced to retire.
Redknapp has also omitted young goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, with loan signing Stipe Pletikosa instead providing cover for Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini.
