Tottenham make last-ditch attempt to sign Rafael Van Der Vaart as transfer window closes - report

Tottenham Hotspur have attempted to make a transfer deadline busting move for Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.
Van der Vaart, 27, had been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital after the arrival of Germany World Cup 2010 star Mesut Oezil threatened his first team place.The Netherlands international was not even being named on the substitute's bench for the opening 0-0 La Liga draw against Real Mallorca, further undermining his role.
According to Sky Sports News, van der Vaart arrived at Spurs Lodge this afternoon to try and force through a last minute switch. It is not yet known whether the deal reached completion before the window shut at 6pm (BST).
