Official: Blackpool sign Matt Philips from Wycombe Wanderers for initial £325k fee
Holloway swoops for young England prospect.....
By George Watts
The fee could rise to £700,000 depending on whether Ian Holloway’s side can retain their Premier League status this season, whilst Wycombe could also receive the extra sum even if Blackpool are relegated, as long as the club are promoted again within four years.
It is understood that the deal also includes a sell on clause and the transfer will be seen by Gary Waddock's League Two side as a very good one in a financial sense.
However, they are losing a promising young player who has played nearly 80 league games for Wycombe at just the tender age of 19, whilst he has also been capped at under-19 level by England.
"He's an outstanding prospect and I'm sorry to lose him, but it's a great move for him and excellent business for the football club," Waddock told the Wycombe website.
The signing will strengthen Holloway’s midfield as Blackpool look to continue their promising start to Premier League life which so far has seen them cumulate four points from their opening three games.
"Matty has been on our radar for some time," Holloway told the club's official website.
"He did well in the European Under-19 tournament for England in the summer and has played almost 80 league games for Wycombe.
"I can't wait for him to get involved in our system and work with him on the training ground."
