Premier League sides Fulham and Stoke are chasing Real Madrid’s Royston Drenthe with a view to a last-minute bid to capture the Dutchman, according to reports.

The 23-year-old was left out of los Blancos’ squad to face Mallorca at the weekend, fuelling speculation that he could be on the way out of the Santiago Bernabeu.

Yesterday, French Ligue 1 club Monaco confirmed that they had made an approach for Drenthe, but that the player had refused to discuss a move to the principality, and as such looked to be staying in Spain for the time being.

However, AS comment that the English top-flight duo are readying last minute bids, allegedly after discussions between Real Madrid and the player, during which Drenthe was left in no doubt that his future lies away from the Spanish capital.

Ambitious promoted side Hercules have also expressed an interest in the former Feyenoord full-back, but it is thought that Drenthe would rather pursue the options from England rather than ply his trade with another La Liga club.

However, any deal will have to be completed quickly with the transfer window in England slamming shut at 6pm.
