After being linked with Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar throughout the summer, Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry to the Toffees about the availability of the South African international according to reports.
Sky Sports News believe that the White Hart Lane outfit stepped up their pursuit of the highly-rated midfielder on Monday evening, just hours after being dealt a blow with the news that fellow target, Luis Fabiano, had signed a new two-year contract with Sevilla.
Pienaar is into the last year of his contract at Everton, and while the South African international has instisted that he is happy to stay with the Toffees, he will only agree to a contract extension once the club offers his a 'fair deal'.
Earlier this week Everton chairman Bill Kenwright stated that the club had made their final offer to the midfielder, and it appears that announcement has encouraged Spurs to make their move for Pienaar.
