Alex McLeish disappointed with refereeing decisions in Birmingham City's draw with Bolton Wanderers
Blues boss says draw 'feels like a defeat'...
By Chris Medland
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish believes that decisions by the officials cost his side victory in the draw at Bolton Wanderers.
Goals from Roger Johnson and Craig Gardner had put Birmingham two goals ahead at the Reebok, with the home side down to ten men after the dismissal of Jussi Jaaskelainen.
But a Kevin Davies penalty and Robbie Blake free-kick rescued a point for Bolton, leaving McLeish deflated and upset at the decisions to award both set pieces.
"It feels like a defeat, hopefully we believe in the grand scheme of things it will be a good away point," he told Sky Sports.
"But we're really disappointed with two decisions that led to the goals, two set pieces - a penalty and a free kick - that for me you're going to see ten penalties a game if that's a penalty.
"I mean if that's a penalty, how many times do you see challenges like that in the box?
"Centre forwards jumping with centre halves: it's extremely, extremely soft."
McLeish did have some good news on midfielder Sebastien Larsson though, who limped off midway through the second half.
"He was in a lot of pain but the doctor's looking at him now and it doesn't appear as bad as first thought so hopefully Seb will be OK."
