Fulham manager Mark Hughes still hopes to sign Manchester City's Shay Given
Sparky wants to beat transfer deadline...
By Chris Medland
The Fulham boss is keen to bring in a replacement for wantaway 'keeper Mark Schwarzer, who is a target for Arsenal.
And with Joe Hart being the first choice so far for Roberto Mancini's side at Eastlands this season, Given wants first-team football.
As the man who brought Given to City in January 2009, Hughes is attempting to sign the Irishman for a second time.
The former Wales manager has also stated that he won't stand in Schwarzer's way should a move to Arsenal materialise, but any deal with the Gunners is subject to a replacement being brought in.
"Mark Schwarzer has made it clear that he would like to go to Arsenal so we are trying to look at other options," Hughes said.
"I'm always interested in quality players and Shay Given is a quality player - make of that what you will.
"But I have said that if we can't get anyone else in, Schwarzer will have to stay."
