Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that want-away midfielder Charles N’Zogbia must earn his place back in the team after his move to Birmingham City fell through.

Earlier this week Wigan gave in to the 24-year-old's demands for a transfer and accepted an offer from Birmingham only to see the deal break down over personal terms.

After the Latics beat Tottenham 1-0 at White Hart Lane on Saturday, Martinez told N’Zogbia that he will struggle to gain his place back in the Wigan team.

"Obviously we agreed a fee with another Premier League club and it seemed that transfer was going to go ahead," Martinez told Sky Sports News.

"Now, the situation is up in the air. Charles is a Wigan Athletic player and he needs to do a lot on the training ground to persuade this group of players to open up and allow him to come in and fight for a place."

Martinez also went on to contrast the attitude of N’Zogbia to the side he saw beat Champions League outfit Spurs, despite being on the back foot for much of the game.

"It's difficult to accept that certain players don't want to be committed and don't want to be at the football club. It's very, very difficult to see a way back for Charles," he concluded.
