Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has hailed the arrival to Bloomfield Road of Luke Varney and believes the striker will prove to be a valuable addition to his squad.

The 27-year-old, who has moved to the club from Derby County on a season-long loan deal, could make his debut for the Tangerines in their first home game of the new season against Fulham on Saturday.

Blackpool have the option to make Varney's stay permanent should they wish to do so, and boss Ian Holloway believes that the player can make a name for himself in the top flight.

"He is a great lad, he has got some pace and I think he'll play really well in a 4-3-3 formation," he said.

"I think he will just slot straight in to our system and hopefully I can get him going again.

"He is a fantastic lad off the field and even at Sheffield Wednesday last season he got 11 goals for them."
