Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has insisted that there is no more news with regards to Charles N’Zogbia’s potential move to the club.

McLeish had announced on Wednesday that Birmingham had increased their offer for the Wigan Athletic winger, a move that angered Latics’ boss Roberto Martinez, but speaking after Thursday’s 3-2 League Cup triumph over Rochdale, McLeish revealed that the situation has not progressed further.

"There is nothing I can say on it," the former Rangers boss told the Press Association.

"Until the Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed there is no point talking about it.

"I've no comment on it [Martinez's reaction]. That will only sell you papers."

After watching his side scrape past League One Rochdale, McLeish was given further evidence that to suggest he needs to improve his squad.

Rochdale opened the scoring after 26 minutes when captain Gary Jones took advantage of confusion in the Blues' defence to power home a shot from six-yards.

The lead lasted less than two minutes, however, as referee Mike Russell deemed that Matt Derbyshire was fouled inside the area, and James McFadden converted from the spot to give Birmingham an equaliser.

The Blues roared back in the second half to run out eventual 3-2 winners, but Rochdale have every reason to be happy with their overall performance.

McLeish said: "We will try our best to go as far as we can.

"It depends on the draw and you need a bit of luck but you never know.

"With the greatest respect to the Carling Cup the Premier League is our greatest priority but we want to go far.

"We knew an upset could happen. You see teams stumble every year but at 3-1 I thought we would go on and score more.

"But credit to Rochdale as they fought back well."
