Werder Bremen claim to be close to signing former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre
Ex-Gunner set for German switch...
By Zack Wilson
Werder Bremen have confirmed that former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre is on the brink of joining the club.
The French centre-back's contract expired at the Emirates during the summer and he is now a free agent.
"We are in promising talks, it looks like Silvestre is coming to us," Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs told Kicker.
Silvestre spent nine years at Manchester United, claiming a host of winners' medals, but could never quite exert the same influence whilst with the Gunners after joining in 2008.
