Football deal-broker Keith Harris has declared a new mystery buyer is ready to launch a £400-500 million bid for Liverpool.

The Anfield outfit have been put up for sale after American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks ran up huge debts on the club. So far, a deal has not been completed, with Chinese businessman Kenny Huang the latest to pull out last week.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Harris - who had a hand in takeovers at Manchester City, Aston Villa and West Ham United - said a new party he was representing had already passed financial due diligence.

He said: "The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. A huge amount of work has been done.

"It is none of the groups mentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court to make an offer.

"I do not think the deal will be done before the transfer window closes this month but the next pressure point is October when some of the RBS loan of £237million has to be repaid. It may happen then. But in the present climate these things are impossible to predict."

Here's our man Greg Stobart with a little bit of colour for you:

Welcome to Old Trafford, where Luis Suarez has just received a taster of what’s to come as he left the pitch following Liverpool’s warm-up. ‘You racist b******’ chanted the United fans in the Stretford End towards the Uruguayan, who will be public enemy No. 1 here today. The frosty and overcast in Manchester as the stands fill up with around 10 minutes until kick-off. There’s plenty of excitement here in the press box about a fixture described by Sir Alex Ferguson as United’s ‘main derby’ - especially with the added incentive for the hosts of going to the top of the Premier League ahead of City’s game tomorrow.

Anyway, getting sidetracked. Predictions are flying in through twitter for the United/Liverpool game, with just 15 minutes till kick-off.

The most hopelessly-optimistic-given-starting-lineups guess: "2 1 utd..chicarito double" from @specimengold

Gritty-realist-and-man-of-few-words: "2-0..manutd.." from @sugarmanne

And I only say that as Norwich City's very own John Ruddy looks disconcertingly like Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus. You're never going to score past that.

No matter what anyone says, I could never trust a goalkeeper with that wispy a beard.
