Andrei Arshavin: Arsenal must beat big boys to win Premier League
Russian also hails improvement from youngsters...
By Matt Monaghan
The Gunners lost home and away against Manchester United and Chelsea last season as they finished in third place in the table. With the club's run without the top flight trophy stretching to 2004, the Russian has targeted an improvement in the head to head meetings to finish on top.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "My opinion is if you look at the table then we were close but when we met Chelsea and Manchester United they beat us.
"I would like to see this season [how] we will manage to fight against big teams."
Arshavin also backed the young players in the squad to use their experience to mature into challengers.
"All the young players have experience now. Of course, every one of them has talent," Arshavin stated.
"It gives me belief that we can do something this year."
Arshavin scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 6-0 win over Blackpool and will be keen to add to his tally throughout the season. The Russian has recently dropped 21 places in the latest edition of the Castrol Rankings and is now rated 38th in the study of the top five leagues in Europe.
