Manchester City No.1 Joe Hart: I know if I don't perform Shay Given is ready to steal my spot
Englishman knows he has not won starting spot outright just yet...
By Zack Wilson
The young Englishman has been handed the starting spot between the sticks by his manager Roberto Mancini, with Hart's rival Shay Given looking set to depart Eastlands on loan.
However, Hart does not see the situation as beiny set in stone and knows that he must stay as sharp as possible in order to fight off the challenge of an experienced campaigner like Given.
"It's a difficult situation but I'm enjoying it at the moment," the 23-year-old told reporters.
"We speak about it, but there's only so much we can comment on.
"I'm taking everything step-by-step and trying to improve my game. I have to do that because if I don't, I know Shay will take it away from me.
"I'm a confident kind of person, but not in a cocky way. You have to believe in yourself and enjoy what you do and it's nice to be playing."
City welcome Liverpool to Eastlands tonight for their first home game of the campaign after drawing at Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend.
Hart is looking forward to an eagerly anticipated encounter between two of the teams battling for a top four finish this season.
"Everyone wants to be in the side because City are an exciting prospect at the moment. We've had big games at Spurs and in Romania and now we have another big game coming up against Liverpool," he added.
"It's the first home game of the new Premier League season and it should be an exciting night."
